Our story

We are a family that is passionate about books and are fortunate to make our living through them.

Dita (the mother of the family) has been the soul of the second-hand bookshop since its inception; she runs the shop and undertakes all the administration and redemptions. Petr (the son) manages the warehouse and fast order processing with great efficiency. Markéta (the daughter-in-law) photographs the books and publishes them on the e-shop. Pavlína (the daughter) ensures the e-shop runs smoothly and enjoys communicating with customers.

In addition to human contact, on entering our shop you may well be greeted by Cassie, our friendly dog, or one of our three cats.

Once upon a time (in 2001), we started selling pet products from a dilapidated old house in Husova Street No. 10 near Poděbrady Square. We soon opened another room, filled with second-hand books. It quickly became clear that people came to us mainly for books. All that remains of the pet shop is the old commercial scale, upon which we weigh packages of books destined for the post office.

A second-hand bookshop was established. A place where you will find the writings of Božena Němcová, manuals on motoring, and tales of a famous Czech mole, all under one roof. In short, the books of all possible genres. Over time we have grown and to meet the requirements of this growth we purchased a separate warehouse to house out stock. Our daily tasks, which were previously done by two people, are now handled by a core team of four as well as several part-time workers.

We believe that each book has its own reader, so we try to buy and sell a wide variety of literary genres. All the books we buy pass through the hands of each of us. We process, describe, and photograph the books ourselves. Giving books a second, third, or perhaps even a fourth chance is work that makes sense to us and that we are passionate about.
